LAND DISTURBANCE


Land disturbance is clearing, grading or any related work which results in removal of the natural site vegetation or destruction of the root zone or otherwise results in leaving the ground surface exposed to soil erosion through the action of wind or water.

when a PERMIT IS REQUIRED


Land disturbance activities involving MORE than thirty (30) cubic yards of earth/soil moved and MORE than two thousand (2,000) square feet of disturbed area providing the land disturbance activity is for the improvement of the property require a permit. Ordinance number 5551 requires a storm water management plan accompany any project disturbing 2,000 square feet of area.  

MOST COMMON PROBLEMS

  • Proper grading around a foundation.
  • Not reading and following city approved plans and construction details.
  • Not having approved city plans and permit card on job site - automatic failed inspection $40.00 Fee.
  • Not scheduling inspections.
  • Proper installation of siltation control fence, starts with a trench.
  • Avoid Increasing water runoff to adjacent properties, provide swales and berms.
  • Drain outlets for gutter downspouts and sump pumps a minimum of 10' from property line.
  • Distance from house sill plate to finish grade, see plan construction detail.
  • Not cleaning up streets daily.
  • Not applying for permits.
  • Continuing to work after a STOP WORK ORDER has been issued.
