ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Non-Commissioned Police Personnel
(Dispatcher, Data Entry/911 Clerk, Records Clerk)
Physical Ability
Range of motion/flexibility: be able to move from normal daily duty
station to public service counter in response to walk-in requests for
service and/or complaints.
Manual Dexterity/Motor Skills: possess necessary dexterity and "fine
motor skills" to operate department office equipment (i.e. touch
tone telephone, computer, keyboards, typewriters, audio/video monitors
and recorders)
Sight/Visual Acuity: possess adequate vision to effectively view computer
monitors, interior/exterior security cameras and prisoner activity monitors.
Hearing
Possess ability to use standard telephones and radio equipment.
Possess hearing ability to monitor safety/security audio devices.
Possess ability to discern sound in frequencies determined to be within
the "normal range of human hearing".
Communication Skills
Speak and write the English language in a clear and understandable
manner.
Possess ability to reasonably identify and employ non-verbal communications.
Possess ability to effectively relate/communicate with a variety of
personality types during interpersonal contacts.
Reasoning Ability
Possess ability to comprehend and implement verbal and written instructions.
Possess ability to apply reasoning skills when confronted with incidents
or events requiring judgmental decisions be made.
Possess at a minimum, "average" short and long term memory
skills in order to retain and retrieve information furnished in the
form of written directives, verbal instructions, training bulletins,
etc.
