| Neighborhood Watch
The Creve Coeur Neighborhood Watch Association is composed of families residing in Creve Coeur who have joined together with improved safety and crime prevention as the main goals of the organization. Throughout the year the Association presents programs of interest to the community, such as National Night Out and Earthquake Preparedness. Neighborhood Watch is a crime prevention program which enlists the active cooperation and participation of the citizens of Creve Coeur with law enforcement. What does the program involve? Neighbors getting to know each other and working together in a program of mutual assistance. Citizens being trained to recognize and report suspicious activities in their neighborhoods. Coordinating additional programs such as: Vacation House Checks, Funeral watches, Wedding Watches, and Senior Citizen Security and Welfare Checks. All citizens of Creve Coeur are eligible to join in and learn, have fun and assist in continuing to make the City of Creve Coeur a great place to live and work. The elderly, the young, singles, or entire families - - - anyone interested in the prevention of crime and the safety and security of their families, neighborhoods, and this city. What are the requirements for becoming a member of the Creve Coeur Neighborhood Watch Program? 50% of the homes of a neighborhood or subdivision must participate in a Neighborhood Watch training program put on by the Creve Coeur Police. 50% of the homes in a neighborhood or subdivision must have participated in Operation Identification by marking at least five (5) items of property. A block captain and/or co-captains must be chosen to represent the neighborhood. A neighborhood map or directory which includes names, addresses, home and work phone numbers of residents in the neighborhood, must be completed. A telephone tree or alert system to notify residents of problems in the area must be set up. Residents will conduct a self security survey or have one performed by the police department with the objective of taking steps to increase the security of their homes. A method set up to acquaint new residents with the Neighborhood Watch program. An annual $1.00 per household membership fee . ( The money is handled by the Neighborhood Watch Association Board and is used toward improving the Neighborhood Watch Program.) Neighborhood Watch signs will be installed at a cost of $30 per sign. How do I get started in the Neighborhood Watch Program? Arrange a neighborhood meeting to discuss the prospect of having a Neighborhood Watch program. Invite the Creve Coeur Police Department Crime Prevention Officers to your meeting. The Crime Prevention Officer will discuss requirements, training, and benefits of Neighborhood Watch. Identify and discuss any local problems. Form a neighborhood committee and select potential block captains. Learn what can be done to reduce crime and deter criminals from operating in your neighborhood. The Crime Prevention Officer will assist you in getting your program started and will provide training for everyone involved. Neighborhood Watch programs stress the role every citizen can play in the fight against crime. This program is designed to bring into every home steps that will reduce the threat to the property and person of each citizen. Citizens making a firm commitment and sharing in Community responsibility helps insure everyone’s quality of life. The police need your eyes, your ears, and your help. Criminals cannot and will not operate in areas where the citizenry is alert. Who do I call for additional information?
