Frequently Asked Questions

I don’t have an Associate’s Degree or 64 college credit hours, am I still eligible?

Yes, but you must have at least 55 college credits in order to start your application process. If you do not have the minimum college requirement as documented on a college transcript your application will not be processed. If you have at least 40 college credits and were either in the military or have graduated from the police academy, you may want to consider contacting a local community college to see if they will award you college credits based on your training. The college credits awarded for training must be documented on the college transcript.

I have just submitted my application, what’s the next step in the selection process?

An officer will call you to schedule your physical agility test. Typically, the physical agility test is scheduled for the week after the deadline for submitting applications. For more information about the steps in the selection process, see Competitive Selection Process.

I have prior police experience, am I required to pass the physical agility test?

Yes, all applicants regardless of age or prior law enforcement experience must pass the physical agility test. Until you pass the physical agility test you will not progress to the next step in the hiring process. To learn more about the physical agility test and obtain the standards for your age, see Application Instructions (Physical Agility Test).

What if I don’t pass the physical agility test on the first try?

You will be given a second opportunity to retest. If you do not pass on the second attempt your application will become inactive.

I haven’t attended the police academy yet, am I at a disadvantage?

Not necessarily, the goal of our hiring process is to hire the best applicant. Sometimes an applicant without prior experience is the best candidate.

If I am selected and I have not attended the academy yet, which police academy will I attend?

We primarily use the St. Louis County & Municipal Police Academy (CMPA) located at 1266 Sutter in Wellston, MO. For more information about CMPA visit their website: http://www.stlouisco.com/police/academy/

I have already attended the academy, but I am not POST-certified for a Class A county, am I still eligible to compete in the hiring process?

Yes, you are still eligible to compete in the hiring process. However, since you must be POST-certified (Missouri licensed) to work in a Class A county, you may be required to attend the police academy again. Contact Missouri POST if you have additional questions. http://www.dps.state.mo.us/dps/dps2002/post/index.htm

I have attended an 800-hour police academy in another state; will I be required to attend the police academy again in Missouri?

Not necessarily, you may not have to attend the academy again if you contact Missouri POST and obtain a Missouri POST certification.

If I’m hired, am I required to live in Creve Coeur?

No, residency in Creve Coeur is not a condition of employment, however you must be a resident of Missouri upon date of employment.

Whom may I contact if I have additional questions regarding the hiring process?

You may contact Officer Lisa Hahn by phone (314) 442-2071 or email at
