Creve Coeur: Cool City!
Creve Coeur Mayor Harold Dielmann conducted a public signing of the US Mayors’ Climate Protection Agreement at the April 28, 2008 Council meeting (7:00 p.m., Creve Coeur Government Center). The signing of this Agreement is the result of the City Council’s unanimous approval of a proposal supporting the goals of the Climate Protection Agreement, which was brought forward by the City’s Recycling, Environment, and Beautification Committee.
By
signing the agreement, Creve Coeur has joined hundreds of cities
across the country, including several in the St. Louis region, in
becoming a Cool City. Cool Cities are those whose mayors have signed
the Climate Protection Agreement thereby committing themselves to
efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in their communities
through actions such as urban forest restoration projects, public
information campaigns, and the implementation of smart energy
solutions to save money and build cleaner, safer communities.
Additionally, the Creve Coeur Council has authorized a greenhouse gas inventory to be conducted for both City facilities and the larger Creve Coeur community. The inventory will measure energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions and help the City benchmark its progress towards reducing its greenhouse gas emissions. Creve Coeur will be one of the first cities in the area to undertake a greenhouse gas inventory. Spencer Kellum, an intern from the Department of Environmental Science at St. Louis University has been identified to assist the City with the inventory. Mr. Kellum’s time will be donated to the City.
