Clester Log Cabin

(circa early 1800s)

Clester Log Cabin, acquired in 1994, is located in Conway Park.

The simplest form of an American settler’s log cabin, the cabin contains one room, a fireplace and a loft. It was constructed with squared horizontal logs as opposed to the vertical log system used by French and Spanish colonists. It existed in 1829 on land obtained from the federal government by Aaron H. Young. In the early 1960s, being in the path of Interstate 270, L. Darrell and Glenna Clester moved the cabin to 12433 Conway Road where it was restored and furnished with antiques. The cabin was relocated by the City to Conway Park in 1994 which is part of the parcel of land upon which the cabin was originally constructed.
