| Tappmeyer House
Tappmeyer Homestead, was moved from Olive Blvd to Millennium Park early 2003. The historic house was acquired by the city in 1994. Along with the Tappmeyer Foundation Board, the city plans to renovate the home. Built by Frederick Wilheim and Adelia Tappmeyer from 1880 - 1884, four generations of Tappmeyers lived in this house and farmed thirty-three acres. The farm contained fifteen out-buildings: three large barns, a tool shed, a corncrib, an ice house, a smokehouse, chicken and hog houses, and three ponds. The farm produced wheat, corn, alfalfa and clover hay. Cattle, horses and mules were pastured and chickens, ducks, goats and hogs were raised. An apple orchard and large vegetable garden were harvested each year. Butchering, threshing, applebutter making, canning and soap making were all yearly events on the farm. The Tappmeyer Foundation is working to raise the necessary funds to preserve, restore, and furnish the home consistent with an early St. Louis County farm home. The objective of the foundation is to make the historical treasure into a community asset to be enjoyed by all Creve Coeur citizens.
