The Criminal Investigations Unit is responsible for conducting follow-up investigations into crimes reported in the city, crime scene processing and evidence management. Detectives are on-call 24 hours a day.
Within the unit, detectives have sub-specialties:
- Identity Theft
- Sex Crimes
- Auto Theft
In addition, the bureau maintains detectives who are Certified Examiners in Computer Voice Stress Analyzer (C.V.S.A.), a tool used in lie detection. Certain Detectives within the bureau are members of the Midwest Fraud Investigators Association, International Homicide Investigators Association
, Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis
and also assist outside agencies in other investigations.
