Elected to City Council April 2011, Scott Saunders has been a resident of Creve Coeur for 17 years. 

In 2001, he was appointed to the Traffic Committee where he served his final seven years as Chairman of the Committee. During this period of service he also served as District 3 Representative to the St. Louis County I-64 Task Force.

Preceding his election to the City Council, he served as Planning & Zoning Commissioner for the City of Creve Coeur, as well as a member of the Public Art Task Force. He has served as the Council Liaison to both the Arts Commission and the Economic Development Commission, and was recently elected to serve as Council President.

Scott is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Developmental Biology at Washington University School of Medicine where he cares for critically ill newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St. Louis Children's Hospital, as well as directing a research laboratory focused on understanding causes of birth defects.  His other clinical duties include Medical Direction of the St. Louis Children’s Hospital Transport Team and providing consultations to mothers with high-risk pregnancies in the Fetal Care Center. He currently serves as an elected member of both the Faculty Senate Council of Washington University and the Executive Committee of the Faculty Council of the School of Medicine.

He received his B.S. from the University of Minnesota and his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from Stanford Medical School, prior to completing his clinical training at Harvard Medical School and a research postdoctoral fellowship at M.I.T.

Scott has been married to Steph for 31 years. They have two children, Will and Julia.
