Red Light Camera Violations
Photo Enforcement of Red Light Violations
To improve public safety at our signalized intersections, the city is utilizing automated enforcement - commonly referred to as photo enforcement or red light cameras - on Ladue Road at Coeur be Ville, Emerson and Olive at I-270. The fine for a red light violation captured by automated enforcement is $100, the same as an officer-observed violation. Much like a parking ticket, the registered owner and not necessarily the driver is responsible for the violation notice. Under this parking ticket format, no points are assessed against the vehicle owner's license.

How Automated Enforcement Works
The automated enforcement system works by capturing digital images and video of a vehicle violating an electric signal. The images show the light being red, the vehicle in the intersection and the license plate of the vehicle. A police officer reviews all of the evidence and determines if a violation occurred. If approved by a police officer, the registered owner of the vehicle is sent a violation by mail.

Paying Your Violation
The violation notice includes a password-protected link where the vehicle owner can log-on and view video of the violation. Online payments will not be accepted after the court date. If you have received a notice of violation with a court date and that date has passed, you must pay in person at the municipal court office at:
The City of Creve Coeur Government Center
300 N. New Ballas Rd.
Creve Coeur, MO 63141

You will need to present your notice and pin number upon making payments. If you have questions, please contact ATS Customer Service at (866) 790-4111. The Municipal Court can be reached at (314) 432-8844.

Creve Coeur Intersections
Creve Coeur ranks among the communities having the highest number of crashed, with many of those crashed occurring at signalized intersections. Creve Coeur police officers completed 154 Missouri uniform accident reports from 2004 though 2006 where a traffic signal violation was determined to be the probable contributing circumstance.

Additionally, from 2004 through 2006, Creve Coeur police issued 3,205 traffic summonses for signal violations. The intersections where these crashes most often occur are intersections where enforcement is most difficult to perform because of the heavy traffic volume.

Studies on the effect of red light cameras have shown that communities using automated traffic signal enforcement experienced a 40-50% drop in red light violations and a similar drop in violations at unmonitored intersections. Typically, areas saw a drop in injury crashed in 25-30% range.
