City Reduces Requirements on Excavation Permits

CREVE COEUR – After reviewing excavation permit requirements, the city is reducing its current standards to ease the cost of constructing driveway aprons and other work in city rights-of-way.

Excavation permits are required for any work within the city right-of-way, including the pouring of a driveway apron. The purpose of the excavation permit is to protect the city rights-of-way from being damaged during projects being undertaken by individuals not employed by the city.

“The Creve Coeur Department of Public Works strives to maintain reasonable construction standards while still protecting the city’s improvements located within the rights-of-way. I would like our requirements to be uniform with surrounding communities and have found that, in many requirements, this is the case. Making these two modifications will keep our standards up-to-date,” said director of public works, Bill Schwer.

Two major changes are as follows:

  1. Deposit reduced from $1000 to $500 for residential excavations within the right-of-way.
  2. Reducing material requirements for residential asphalt driveway approaches (aprons), from 8” of asphalt on a 4” rock base to 3” of asphalt on top of 6” of rock base.
