Dog Park Open House Tuesday, May 9

CREVE COEUR - Creve Coeur residents are encouraged to come and learn, ask questions, and provide input about the city’s plans to establish a dog park by attending an open house in the Government Center’s Council Chamber (300 N. New Ballas) on Tuesday, May 9, at 6:30 p.m.

A dog park is a fenced-in space established for dog owners to allow their dogs to run off-leash. Included in the Capital Improvement Program (CIP), the city is considering dedicating available space in a portion of an existing park such as Conway Park for the establishment of a dog park. Fenced dog parks can occupy less than an acre or several acres as space permits and may include basic amenities such as a drinking fountain and benches.

Cities with existing dog parks such as University City and Maplewood collect annual membership fees of $20 from resident dog owners who wish to take their dogs to these parks (non-resident rates range between $50 and $80). These fees help offset maintenance costs, which are minimal as dog park rules require patrons to take responsibility for cleaning up after their dogs. Safety rules help ensure that patrons vaccinate their dogs and keep them on leash outside of the fenced perimeter.
