Creve Coeur Residents Invited to June 12 Public Hearing on Budget

CREVE COEUR - Creve Coeur residents are invited to attend a public hearing on the upcoming budget June 12 at 7 p.m. The City Council is currently reviewing the proposed budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1. The city's financial condition has improved considerably over the last two years; however, there are still significant fiscal challenges before the city as it strives to continue to provide high service levels with limited resources.

Operating expenditures for the General Fund are projected to outpace revenues in FY07 largely due to leveling off sales and utility tax revenues, market adjustments to salaries, and increases in contractual services and commodities.

The General Fund is the city’s biggest operating fund. It provides funding for all of the city’s basic services. These include police, street maintenance, parks, administration, planning, building inspections, and others. Revenues and transfers in for the General Fund for 2007 are projected to be $12,274,604, while expenditures and transfers out are estimated at $12,738,686 resulting in a deficit of $464,082. Existing reserves will be used to offset the operating deficit.

Significant objectives over the next fiscal year include the following:

  • Continue to implement the city's Central Business District land use plan to establish a downtown Creve Coeur.
  • Pursue joint service agreements among neighboring communities to help offset service costs while maintaining or improving service levels.
  • Analyze potential revenue enhancements and alternative revenue sources to ensure the long-term financial stability of the city.
  • Maintain the city's commitment to public safety by ensuring competitive pay for police officers and upgrading the city's emergency communications system.
  • Review the city's trash and recycling services (contract expires June 30, 2007).
  • Improve streets and sidewalks throughout the city as well as enhance the Millennium Park playground and possibly establish a dog park at Conway Park.

Please contact Mayor Dielmann, City Council Members, or the city administrator with comments. A public hearing will be held June 12 at 7 p.m. with final budget approval scheduled for June 26 at 7 p.m.
