Creve Coeur P&Z Approves Downtown Plan

CREVE COEUR - The Creve Coeur Planning & Zoning Commission voted unanimously in favor of adopting a land use plan for the city’s downtown area last night. Creve Coeur’s downtown is located south of Olive Boulevard, generally between New Ballas Rd and Old Ballas Rd. The downtown plan provides the framework for how this part of the city will be redeveloped in the future if and when the property owners choose to rebuild.

Planning & Zoning Commission chairman Richard Meyer said, “The adoption of the downtown plan entailed a very diligent effort on the part of many people. This commission is grateful for the assistance and input we’ve received from so many throughout the planning process, including city residents, the Creve Coeur/Olivette Chamber of Commerce, members of the business community, and city staff.”

Creve Coeur’s planning director Matt Brandmeyer said, “One of the key aspects of this undertaking was providing an open and transparent process and making sure that multiple voices were heard through the plan’s development.”

The city began its planning effort with the development of a public engagement plan that laid out the planning process, and in the last nine months, held several open house events, focus groups, and public hearings.

Within its recommendations section, the downtown plan calls the development of an urban neighborhood within the downtown area. The plan encourages pedestrian oriented, mixed-use developments that include retail and restaurants on the first floor with residential units above.

A draft of the plan can be viewed on the city’s Web site at www.creve-coeur.org. The final version will be available by next week.
