WHAT: The nation’s largest recycling drive will be held in the
parking lot of a synagogue in suburban
Anything
considered electronics is accepted ranging from computers, monitors, TVs, VCRs,
lawn mowers and tillers to blenders, toasters, phones and alarm clocks. All
items are accepted free except monitors, laptops and major appliances ($5) and
TVs ($10) because they contain hazardous materials requiring special handling. Last
year, in addition to the electronics, 1,000 lbs. of paper instruction manuals
were recycled.
Of
the computers collected last year, 55% were broken down for recycling; 45% were
refurbished by WITS and given free to homebound children, low-income families, community
centers and school districts in several states.
