Development of an Economic Development Plan for

the City of Creve Coeur is Underway

CREVE COEUR - The Creve Coeur Economic Development Commission (EDC) will hold two public forums to gain input from business owners, property owners, and residents on the preparation of an economic development strategy for the city. The two forums are scheduled at the Government Center on Friday, April 16, from 7:30 - 9 a.m., and Thursday, April 29, from 5:30-7 p.m.

The purpose of an economic development strategy is to identify specific and realistic strategies for strengthening Creve Coeur's competitive position in the St. Louis region.  Through this effort, the city hopes to capitalize on Creve Coeur’s many existing strengths and to enhance the city’s economic diversity, stability, and vitality.

A key component of this process is the recent completion of the report, An Economic and Fiscal Impact Analysis for the City of Creve Coeur, an analysis of the city’s economy and its relationship to the city’s revenue base. Conducted by the Public Policy Research Center at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, the report was developed to provide some of the base economic data and information needed to help the EDC with the creation of an economic development strategy for the city. (The report is posted at www.creve-coeur.org/.)

Public input is essential to the preparation of the city’s economic development strategy. The EDC will rely on information generated by the upcoming public forums to gain additional insight into ways the city can continue to attract and retain high quality businesses, as well as provide a high level of services and amenities to both residents and businesses.

Business owners and representatives, residents, and interested members of the public are encouraged to attend the upcoming public forums. EDC members and city staff will be present to provide an overview of the planning process, including draft goals and objectives for the economic development strategy. Participants will have the opportunity comment on the presented information and make recommendations to help shape the overall strategy.

The anticipated completion date for an economic development strategy is late June 2004. For additional information, please contact Ellen Dailey, planner, at 442-2082.
